Hey guys I need advice. Best Buy is offering me the Klipsch Icon KC-25 ($249) for their cost of $130. I called a best buy from out of town to hold a pioneer center SP-C21 that's discontinued to match my pioneer FS51 floor speakers. I got their and they sold my speaker. In return they are offering me the KC-25 center at this price. Should I take their offer? Is it that much better than the pioneer ? The pioneer was only $59. Their HT specialist said it would work with my floors. Is he just BS'ing me? I was worried about timbre matching issues. Any help would be awesome.

Since you already have Pioneer for your mains, you should probably go with the Pioneer. You want your front three speakers to be timbre matched.

Newegg still has the SP-c21.

Ya that's what I was thinking. I didn't know if it was a good enough deal to snag and try to make work. I noticed the sensitivity was way different from my floors.

Yep, definitely be worried about matching - these two sets of speakers are about as different from each other as I can imagine. Personally I wouldn't do it.

You guys must be crazy to think the pioneer center is close to the kc25. I work at best buy and the pioneer is so muted compared to the klipsch. For a 50 dollar difference it is more than a bargain

Sorry but just about anything sounds muted compared to the Klipsch. And efficiency has nothing to do with a speaker's quality. For example the $850 Dynaudio "Excite" center is rated at 86dB, 1dB less than the slightly larger Pioneer. The B&W HTM62 (dual 5" woofers) is rated even lower, at 85dB.

Since you work at BB, so you would tell your customers not to match their L/R even if the proposed center is better? Go with a different brand/line within brand? Good advice...

yup... it would be, ummm, suboptimal, at best... the center would sound completely different than the mains...

Thanks again guys. I greatly appreciate the knowledge and honesty from this forum. I will wait for the SP-C21 to go on sale at newegg. In the mean time I'll use the money towards the receiver.

I was talking about the speaker itself....if it was me i'd take the center with the thought of upgrading the rest of my system and that would be a good start. As far as Best Buy employees most are middle of the road kids that are there for a paycheck but I am not that person. I had a love for audio long before this job. The only difference now is that I actually deal with a lot of these products on a daily basis and know how the sound in every environment. Most people don't have this advantage and just hear what someone puts on for a demo and base they're opinion on a couple demo's that are designed to sell those speakers. So if you (and sorry for writing this with just your quote...i'm sure a lot of people think this and there was more comments below) and whoever else wants to judge my knowledge on one comment go ahead. I give advice and sell great setups to people with all different audio tastes and do a great job at it. So just be careful with smart a$$ comments about people just because they work somewhere that you don't care for.

Thanks

Derek

yes, i not only question your judgment; but you gave poor advice....

i doubt very highly that you know how the stuff you sell sounds in "every environment"...

you sure you want to go down this road?

Since I was an installer before a sales person I've heard things in almost every environment. I go to all major brands training events to keep up on the industry. This is my job not just a hobby. I'll say after reading the whole post mine didn't make sense but I was stating the kc25 was a better speaker. So u guys will know more than me on crazy high end stuff that 1 percent of people here have but I'm right there for the other 99.
