Anyone know what is going on with MakeMKV?

My beta key expired, so I went to get a new one. It also prompted me to upgrade as my version was 'too old.' Upgraded to 1.9.9, but the key on the site says only good through the end of March 2016. Is the developer just on vacation or has he given up on it?

He's sometimes a few days late on updating the key. Keep an eye on the web page. Or buy a license, in which case it doesn't expire.

There are a couple posts on his site that say they paid for a license as much as a week ago and haven't received their registration key. I actually went to go buy a license as I'd grown tired of constantly updating it and I figured after several years of use, I probably should! Was surprised that it had gone from $30 to $50 though. Either way, hope the guy is ok.

This. If you use MakeMKV you should support it and buy a permanent key.

I had trouble with MakeMKV over the weekend. I got the "your version is out of date" message, so I upgraded to the latest version...then get the same error. Updated again, rebooted the PC, same error. Uninstalled, installed the latest version, same error.

First time I've had this issue. And I don't see how it's performing a version check and finding a version newer than the latest version available on the website.

I didn't think it was a key issue until I found this thread again yesterday. I'd expect to see a "key" error, not the error that I was seeing.

And yes, I've considered it as I've been purchasing a lic for most all of the software that I use frequently. The downside is that I hardly ever use MakeMKV. This would have been only like the 3rd or 4th time this year.

Here's the translation from Google translate:
Attention! The site has been moved to a new server.
If you are the owner of the site and you are not worthy of our dns, change the IP to dns to 95.213.137.146, If you have any questions, contact the hosting support!

I wouldn't try to over analyze that, as it is a machine translation. My bet is they moved the site to a new IP and the DNS propagation hasn't caught up with everyone yet.

The Redfox decrypter program simply disappeared from hard drive I did not know big brother could do that. Now it appears MakeMKV is history. All power to big business in the Trump years. Stop complaining and stand and deliver.

Yeah i noticed this.... Today I put an app on phone to change both dns to the i. P mentioned in the initial Russian msg.
I could then access makemkv forum etc, bought a liscense..

I did seem to be the only person the forum...

I can only assume it's been made a pain to get to because of pressure?
Maybe just part of the process of moving servers as the Russian msg suggests...

??

I don't understand your previous post. When I go to makemkv.com, it's down. The message has an IP address of 95.213.137.146. That address is also dead. Is there some other way to get to makemkv to get a license?

If MakeMKV is still alive, that will be good.

But it's dead at present to all appearances. If it is dead, are there alternatives to converting ISO to MKV?

So can you post the current beta key? That would help in the short term. If MakeMKV is still alive, that will be good.

I used a app & changed both dns my phone uses to the ip mentioned...
Went to makemkv.com
I brought a liscense so I don't know the beta key..

Redfox and DVDFab are the alternatives.

You have to have some way of telling your machine what IP address goes to makemkv.com. If you just type the IP address into the bar that could be a shared server that doesn't know where to direct your request without a host name. For desktop OS's (like Windows and OSX), here's an article on that:

https://howtogeek.com/howto/2735...ur-hosts-file/

Here's what I entered in my hosts file on both my Mac and PC (you have to do it on each machine):
Code:
95.213.137.146 makemkv.com
95.213.137.146 makemkv.com
With that I was able to get to makemkv.com again. This might be temporary. They might also have decided to "hide" themselves by doing this. I'm thinking the latter, but it has been longer than I would expect to resolve this if it's just a DNS or billing issue.

RedFox produces ISOs. They don't extract ISOs to MKV...do they?
Likewise for DVDFab's products?
I don't need a ripper. I'm concerned about losing the ability to create MKVs from an ISO.

I'm not sure; I was actually thinking of the decoding step. Try: Ripping Blu-Rays II.

I just searched google for makemkv key and opened the cached version of the first result. It took me right to the forum post with the current beta key.

MakeMKV key good to the end of November:

There are free tools to create an MKV, it would be an extra step of course. But MKV is just a container, so not really a big deal compared to decrypting the discs.

https://mkvtoolnix.download/

And of course you'd need to be able to determine the correct playlist to convert if the title is not in a single M2TS file.
