Netflix for XBOX ONE S - HDR enabled upon launching app

So I was planning to watch a movie on Netflix with XBOX ONE S (on my LG OLED 65c6p w/HDR) this past weekend. I launch the app, and it automatically goes into HDR mode (The "HDR" logo pops up on my TV). At first I think nothing of it, and proceed to select Doctor Strange (a film that doesnt support HDR on Netflix). The image is way too dark, and if try to adjust the brightness on my TV it washes out the image. The HDR mode on the app should only enable when you select a title that supports HDR (i.e. the crappy Adam Sandler movie "The Do-Over"). I looked online and saw people on the Xbox Forums reporting this issue back in early 2017. I reported this to XBOX support, who claimed they've never heard of this issue before, and also reported this to Netflix support who claimed the same thing. Has anyone here seen this? I'm thinking this has to do with the app itself, not my TV (as the Netflix rep suggested it could be). IMO this makes the Netflix App on XBOX ONE S unusable if you have an HDR TV. Unless you exclusively watch HDR content, or want to disable HDR on your HDMI input each time you want to watch non-HDR programming.

If other people are having this issue, I would like to possibly start a change.org petition or something if it is widespread. Given that the XBOX ONE S is supposed to be a device for all your 4k media needs as they advertise, this really puts a damper on that.

Thanks,

TD

That is ridiculous! You should not have to turn off HDR on your XBOX just watch Netflix properly.
Clearly this is a known issue and they're just ignoring it?
I would understand if this was a small time app, but this is Netflix...

it's best to contact Netflix customer support and state you're an Xbox One S owner and the problem. they're responsible for writing their app.

I've reached out to both Netflix and Xbox Support regarding this.
Hopefully they make note of the issue and fix it.

Did some more research, appears that this issue is widespread and not exclusive to LG HDR TVs

So my js7000 does not make it dark. Hdr is still on my backlight and contrast is at max. Weird. Now I wonder if it's a tv thing.

It does the same thing on my Samsung KS8000, HDR always on, no matter if it the movie or show supports it.

Yep, so pretty much makes Netflix unwatchable if you have a HDR TV.
Thanks Netflix and XBOX.
Gonna start a change.org petition (doubt it will do anything though)

I've seen this saying issue resolved
https://reddit.com/r/xboxone/com...PP&sh=7d46cc94

Edit:Actually it seems like that was hdr for 4k movies

Edit2: seems like Netflix issue

And yet they announce Xbox is first thing that will stream Atmos from Netflix and what not. Yet they can't even get the HDR working right ...oh boy.

Lol Netflix is still fracked up on Xbox? On a serious note why in the world would you use the Xbox to watch Netflix on your oled? I just bought the C7 oled and it has Dolby vision and HDR in the built in Netflix app.

So my theory on this problem is this:

When the Xbox One S launched, with Netflix HDR, things were wonky. Netflix ALWAYS launched with HDR enabled for everything. We dealt with it because HDR content was slim. Then Amazon accidentally released an early version of its UHD app in December which did the same thing. Then they took it away. People that contacted Amazon were told that they were waiting for a March Xbox update to make HDR work properly. When Amazon finally released it's HDR app, it did NOT behave as Netflix does. It only enables HDR when it should.

This makes me think that, initially, the Xbox OS forced this problem but it was eventually corrected and Netflix is too lazy to update with the latest Xbox API to make it work like Amazon does.

TLDR: Netlifx needs to be harassed repeatedly. But I am sure it would help if someone at Microsoft would call them up and bitch at them - since I'm sure Microsoft pressure on Netflix got HDR there on Xbox ONE S at launch in the first place.

WTF?!?! The Netflix issue has been going on since the XB1S launched hasn't it? It's only been about a year. I am still shocked that it hasn't been fixed yet.

It's the reason I never would even consider using the XB1S for Netflix.

The XBOX is HMDI'd directly into my AV receiver, while the TV is currently using optical for digital out. It seems I get better sound quality using the XBOX for Netflix, but of course not video as they cannot spend a little time to fix an app that a large portion of people who own an xbox use. SMH.

Guys, the PS4 Netflix app got updated yesterday to support HDR, and now it behaves exactly like the broken Xbox One S Netflix. Both consoles are useless for Netflix now.

Guess Netflix doesn’t care...

Netflix for XBOX ONE S - HDR enabled upon launching app

I hope this doesn't happen to the Apple TV Netflix app later this year when Apple releases the 4K version of the ATV.

Pretty sad that Netflix doesn't care about fixing this problem.
