LG Electronics and Meridian Audio have announced a strategic partnership to develop high performance audio solutions for the global market.
The press release from Meridian touts the company’s long history of working with digital audio. For example, Meridian was the first company to create a digital active loudspeaker and is well versed in the science of digital signal processing (DSP). Moreover, Meridian Audio had a hand in the development of hi-res audio formats and MQA (master quality authenticated). The company also notes that it has done pioneering work with Dolby.
According to Meridian Audio, LG will incorporate Meridian’s expertise into its audio-related projects. The press release notes that “LG shares Meridian’s philosophy of bringing natural and authentic audio to customers through meticulous attention to detail and rigorous research and development.”
Audiophiles curious as to what might result from this partnership will likely not have to wait any longer than CES 2018 (if not sooner) to find out more. Meridian has offered an interview, so I’ll see if I can garner any additional insights. In the meantime, here are the quotes packaged with the press release:
John Buchanan, Chief Executive Officer at Meridian Audio said, “We are thrilled to have entered into this unique partnership with LG. We are confident that our expertise and shared values will see us bring a great number of innovations to the market together, both now and in the future.”
Seo Young-jae, head of CAV (Convergence Audio &Video) at LG Home Entertainment, noted that “This partnership with Meridian is an example of LG’s commitment to creating premium audio systems that can rival the best in the business. This partnership is all about delivering an outstanding entertainment experience for LG customers worldwide.“
