Vizio m701
Sony DN 840 receiver

Ok so, I still love the older games, even tho they look like complete poo.. I believe the n64s best possible PQ will come from a S video cable, which I dont have on my TV or AV receiver, So I guess the best thing would be to just go with a component cable set off amazon or something.. Cant be more than a few bucks .. But the receiver doesnt have component hookup, just tho old red white and yellow composite, so I couldnt use the av receiver as a source, nor get the audio thru it

So Would something like THIS work? Or is there something maybe a little cheaper that would give me the best PQ possible, while still being able to play thru the av receiver>>

Thanks everyone

Didn't the N64 come with composite cables? Red, White, Yellow? I would think your HDTV has component cable hookups (Red, Blue, Green, Red, White) and yes you can get an official N64 cable for like $10 on the internet. I find it hard to believe your AVR takes composite and not component. That makes no sense to me. I will look it up.

Your AVR doesn't and I am shocked. Your TV does have a component connection though. Hope that helps

Thanks ... Yea I found it odd too.. Only reason I want everything thru the AVr is so I dont have to change inputs, and can just have the audio run thru as well.. DOnt really wanna spend $40 on a hdmi-composite module, but I dont see many other options

Just run composite into your AVR.

Do you play it that often where changing inputs is that big a deal?

Wow! I can't handle the graphics. Super Nintendo is great though. Maybe I should hook mine back up and rock some Goldeneye!

Got it on a 70" m series now... It looked like complete crap on my 52" Samsung 750.. So I can only image it'll look that much worse on a screen 20" bigger lol

My wii u has more nes, SNES, n64, genesis, games on it than I own actual wii games. I like the old games. smile.gif

I here you. The old games are great. I will get a U at some point for the nostalgia games. It's where the madness started!

If you want to fix it, you're going to have to do a RGB mod on your Nintendo 64.

http://retrorgb.com/n64rgbmod.html

And then output that to a nice external upscaler like the XRGB Mini.

http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/framemeister.html

Then, you'll be able to get a picture such as this on your HDTV.

Or a cheaper option, if you own a Xbox 360, is buy the sequel to this game from the N64 which saw an HD remastering on Xbox Live Arcade. Both Banjo games from the N64 saw similar releases as well. There's also a newer Goldeneye release, which while not a port of this classic, obviously took a lot of inspiration from the original.

And if you own a Wii, most of the 1st party lineup is available off the Virtual Console shop, renders in 480p, and looks quite nice via component (It won't hope you with Goldeneye, but might if you want to play some other popular classics). And if you own a Wii U, the Wii U will even upscale these Wii VC downloads for you to HD and automatically pillarbox each game to maintain the original aspect ratio (Attractive if your tv, like mine, doesn't handle 480p so well).
