As I've been looking for 2 player PS3 games to play with my wife, I ended up checking out the details of every PS3 game out ATM (so I'm not including Army of Two and a few other games that haven't come out yet)...

I have used Gamespot exclusively to come up with this list… but now the information is all in one place!

We are really looking for co-op games so I separated the co-op possible games from the competitive only games.

Split screen vertical looks pretty cool on our new 40" widescreen TV.

(We’ve been trying out Rainbow Six some, but may look into Resistance instead). We have no experience in first-person shooters with split screen and can’t kill anything, we are looking for an easier split screen shooter, perhaps on PS2?
Anyway, it seems like some other people might be interested in this list, so here it is

You made no mention of sport titles? Are you looking only for FPS/Action titles?

Madden 08, NHL 08, NBA 2K8, Fight Night R3...etc.. are all great two player games. At the least check out Fight Night Round 3, great visuals and nice controls makes this a title for the masses.

"Huh, I thought the rocky mountains would be a little rockier than this....that John Denver is full of s#!t man!"

Ooops... I did forget to include the sports titles...
I didn't single out just FPS or action titles, they were just the ones that I found while checking on every title I could find, except for sports games.

I forgot that I excluded them when I was 1st making that list as neither my wife or I are into sports, but I did want to make this list comprehensive, so when I get some more time, I'll try to add all the sports games for 2 players too, or even better perhaps someone could help with that to help make the list more comprehensive.

Also missing Untold Legends Dark Kingdom its a hack and slash.

Co-op offline and online (although online is lame due to how they set it up)

Rainbow 6 Vegas dows have offline co-op (kinda).

Technically, you can load the maps in the order of the story and play the whole game through in co-op mode, but you miss all of the cutscenes/explanation, so you just get a little copy blurb on the loading screen saying what's going on. It's fun but to my wife and I (we love playing co-op games) it really made the game less involving because it just seems like a bunch of maps instead of a story.

I wish more games had 2 person offline co-op, online is good but not the same. Is the Motorstorm "patch to make it co-op" rumor officially dead yet?

Virtua tennis 3. You can play doubles in same side so it qualifies to co-op. Great fun but no online mode.

Cool... There are a bunch of 2 player games coming up for the PS3 that aren't out yet... My wife and I can't wait...

I wasn't planning on putting any games that aren't out in full version yet on this list, but can add some if people think they should be on it.

Hmmm while we tried the demo for Jericho a little bit (if only THAT could be co-op!),
basically Rainbow Six is the first co-op First Person Shooter that my wife and I have tried. We just rented it the other day. We tried the two player split screen, and there was a very quiet helicopter ride where no-one says anything, then we end up with almost no other explanation other than "go to the church".

Being our first time with a FPS, of course we pretty much find ourselves stumbling around looking at the sky and the ground, until we hear gunfire and die. The terrorists move very quickly and take cover most of the time.
Sometimes we'd even see a terrorist and of course couldn't even start to aim at them until they already shot us!

So after pretty much giving up on the game, I thought, why not try it in one-person mode. This was a MUCH different experience!
People in the helicopter are talking about what's going on, when I'm dropped on the street, everything is MUCH easier.
Suddenly, there are tutorial-like instructions telling me what to do and how to do it.
No longer are the terrorists all using a lot of cover, and presenting VERY small targets, they are MUCH easier to hit!

The first terrorist stands still in the middle of the street while shooting at me, and I'm actually able to hit him! Then I hit another who also holds in place long enough for a totally 1st timer to hit him.

I don't understand why the 2-player is like this. We chose "normal" mode both for our two-player and the 1-player experiment.

To me this is about the same as a glitch or a bug. It is more or less making the game immpossible for us to learn in two-player mode....

We are going to practice staying away from terrorists and then I'll hold still and my wife can practice aiming at my head while I'm standing still, then I'll practice the same with her. Then we can try it with the other moving but not shooting back...

But I'm starting to think Resistance might be more satisfying if it doesn't have a bug like this........

Resistance doesn't have the same problem as Vegas - you play the whole game, get all the cutscenes exactly the way it should be but it's coop. In our opinion, Resistance was a lot easier to play - the cover system in R6 is fun once you get the hang of it, but you tend to die a whole lot and have to replay a lot to pass a level.
Resistance is a more "basic" shooter and we found on normal mode, we could just plow through and only found a few areas we had to redo over and over (and it was fun, because we were working out different strategies to beat things). You do this in Vegas too but it seems like you constantly do it and it kind of keeps the game from progessing.
This was just our opinion though.

Ok, when I originally made the list, it was just for my wife and I to figure out what PS3 Co-op games were available, whether rated high or low. I didn't pick any games I knew we wouldn't like, namely all sports and car games. We may get into them some day, but since we are new to gaming in general, we want to start with genres we know we like.
Since I had already made the list, it seemed like a good idea to post it here. But then it became apparent that the list left out people into sports and car games, which is a large portion of the PS3 multiplayer games.
So..... just to make the list comprehensive, I've added all the sports/cars games that weren't on the 1st list. There also a few games of various genres that didn't make it to the 1st list.
I do not plan on updating the sports list when new games come out, and may not be able to do very much with the non-sports list as it is.
Outright errors I'll try to fix when I have time, but for now, I am getting prepared for a move at work and a vacation coming up soon at the same time, so I may not even be able to check back on this thread very often.

BTW, This was all compiled from Gamespot only.
Hopefully someone finds this useful:

Very useful post. My wife and I also primarily look for co-op and 2-player games.

Thanks for taking the time to put this list together.

I have the perfect PS3 game to add to your list, and it has just released this week:

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Here is a 4/5 star review from GameDaily (X360 write-up, but it's the same for the PS3). The gameplay follows all six SW movies, but with Lego characters and settings. Earlier editions (two seperate trilogies) on last-gen consoles received rave reviews, so if you never played them you'll appreciate the hi-def polish this new editon has received. I'm thinking of getting it myself to play with my daughter.

Los Angeles Lakers - 16 NBA Championships!

I married a woman who doesn't like gaming. I tried to get her to play skate with no success. At Dave and Busters she likes the Driving Games so I d/l'ed a few of the driving demos but she doesn't like the sensitivity of the PS3 controller, and I don't think she would like the clutter of a driving wheel in the living room. I'm thinking about getting that Go Sport Ski or whatever it's called off of PSN. That might be the one for her. She kind of got into Guitar hero for a while but couldn't get off of easy and I wanted to move on to medium or hard. She definitely does not like FPS games. I wonder if she would mind if I got a gamer gf.

Nice list. You should make a wiki entry. I think many people would find it usefull. I think I am playing a 3 way atv 4 lan game tonight. I just got a ps2 component cable and it makes the ps2 look even better. Connecting ps2's and ps3 together for lan fun is a blast.

I have to try out tourist trophy and its 1080i ps2 resolution. One of the few hd ps2 titles.
